Never gave it much thought until I stood on a pair of yellow footprints, just saying.  A lot of interesting characters did meet me that day

It is the reception area Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, yellow footprints.  A number of guys came from backgrounds I never would have interacted with if I had not become a Marine.  These guys also would never have met someone like me

You can say, “the yellow footprints” to any enlisted Marine and automatically, the tinge of a knowing smile will emerge as he or she reflects on that first day of boot camp.  It’s a Marine thing, if you weren’t there, you wouldn’t understand . . .

Randy so true.  The footprints and the characters one meets will always be a part of you if you were there.  The others have no idea why we are smiling

    What does this mean?

I thought I'd never meet a person like YOU?

Or I thought  regarding myself that no one would meet a person like me.  Unclear.
