South of the Po most food sucks until you hit Sicily or Sardina.  Naples is one big Tourist trap and I find the food deficient

Are you hitting the local mom and pop trattorias?  Hidden gems.

Yes indeed, it is good for their area however when compared to other areas, not edible unless one is a desperate tourist.  Naples and points South great History, bad food IMO.  It takes me less than 2 hours to get to Naples even with airport security.  Even at 59€ flights I am at a loss on why one would go.  Sardinia and Sicily area whole different story

Depends on your definition of good Italian Food.  IMO best overall Italian Restaurant Columbo - Venice, or Mediterranean Schubert Vienna
    A https://www.alcolombo.com/en/
    B. https://www.restaurant-schubert.at/en/restaurant-en/

There are between 7-9 Gastronomic regions, some are better than others IMO.  Tuscany always gets great reviews as well it should.  The  Venetto between Trieste and Venice is a Foodies delight.  Sardinia and Sicily are amazing along with great wines.  From Rome going south the food sucks, bring Maalox Imodium and Ciproflaxin IMO.

For an adventure head over to Split and Hvar in Croatia, both old Venetian colonies.  The wines are old vine, the food divine IMO.  Walk along the harbor in Split and get fresh Sardines off the grill, in Hvar get mussels in white wine.

In Milan hit up Pace an old school restaurant.  Small with great food, no website it does need one.  !.5 blocks from the Marriott, pray the concierge can get you a reservation.  20146 Milan, Metropolitan City of Milan, Italy

Turin is a desert, Como fun, the Aosta Valley a treat where Italy meets France

Bologna and the region for an 80 KM circle serves less than optimum tourist Crap, there are a few exceptions however. Trattoria Anna Maria in Bologna is the exception, well worth a visit https://www.trattoriannamaria.com/

I've never been to Italy but I have been to France.  There was a great Italian restaurant in Bordeaux. And great Chinese food in Paris.
One day I have to go to Italy!
