Trump ate RR’s soul. He wouldn’t be the first. As with the most devout Trump supporters, it reflects a weakness of character. More on that later.
Jim Comey recently wrote an interesting piece about how prolonged proximity to the bloviating President can pull one into his maelstrom of self-delusion. There need be no more effort invested than merely being present at a torrent of BS outgassing from Trump’s ever-jabbering lie-hole.
It is no secret Trump sucks all of the air out of any room, blabs so incessantly that he opens no window for feedback or rebuttal (not that his ego could abide any), so one may suddenly find themselves guilty of a form of silent complicity, simply by way of standing nearby and not protesting. By the time discourse becomes possible (if indeed it ever does), whatever narrative that can be deciphered has been pushed so far down the rabbit hole that a respondent has only two real choices: call Bull***t and rouse Trump’s ire; or (now the character “issue“ I mentioned) submit, and tow the line to avoid becoming the subject of imminent and tedious denigration. Soul eaten.
Of those now free from Trump’s suffocating orbit, only Jim Mattis (a Marine 4-star General, no less) did it on his own terms.
