It is really hard to find good, sweet oranges or any of the other choices these days. I know they exist, however, for some reason they are not in the grocery stores. For that reason, I rarely buy them any longer.
When I go see my mother I drive by miles of citrus groves. I don't know for sure what they are but a few weeks ago the smell along there was divine. Then I notices the fruit was gone and saw many trucks hauling it down the highway. Next time I drive by and smell the fruit, I'm going to stop and grab a few.....just so I will have done that. It just seems ridiculous to be around it and never snitch one.
I'll tell you the reason. We have chemicals in the soil we have irradiated fruits and vegetables and we have no way to buy freshly grown alive food that has been freshly picked in its own soil. The American farmer is more like the American manufacturer of waste products.
My younger daughter graduated from Auburn with an ag degree. I read a couple of her textbooks and find it surprising how often I remember something, like this. I particularly enjoyed learning about warehousing of harvested foods.
