I can only guess he represents to some people what they want but feel they have been denied. So it is a kind of jealousy. Or they make him a scapegoat for their fears.
The president has nothing to do with Soc. Sec. COLA raises. Trump didn't give me anything.
"By law, the monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) federal benefit rate increases when there is a rise in the cost of living. The government measures changes in the cost of living through the Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index (CPI-W)."
Well they do not measure very well. Under Obama when gas was going crazy. SS had 4 years with little (1 yr .3% and 3 with 0%) Do you believe there has ever been a year with no Cost of Living increases?
I understand that a lot of people were not happy and that the cost of things goes up, but if you read the entire article, you see that a large number of people began to collect at that time and the calculations had to be revised.
The number of people should have no bearing on COLA. They claim it was gas dropping that countered everything else raising. I believe they did not want to because as you said a cost measure. Obama changed the law to criminal activity no longer barred a person from collecting benefits.

It can if it depletes the Social Security Fund too much. Remember, the Baby Boomers, the largest segment of society, are collecting and starting to collect now.
True. But they have been paying I all their lives and the gov should not have spent it. If a private retirement firm operated like that they would go to prison. ie. Jim Baker, Maddoff
That's because Congress didn't pass legislation to prevent Soc. Sec. funds from going into the general treasury or the ability to raid it when they needed more money. That fund should be inviolate.
