How do you convince yourself that a new partner is free of any STD which s/he might pass on to you?

That would be up to her to prove to me.

  • What kind of proof would you need from her?

Note from a doctor? Bad choice.

Insist that they get tested and that you must  be present when the results are presented.  Seriously,  I haven't had a new girlfriend for 44 years.

No sex without latex is my rule of thumb.  Never trust anyone when it comes to self reporting of STD's.  Get to know them and find out their dating background - there are dead give aways as to whether they may have an STD

I suggest to you both have blood tests to determine any STDs.  I would think that multi-partner active adults must be very careful.

Mutual STD testing and then sharing the results with each other. That way, both find out for sure and both can relax.

Have the sexual history conversation in which each tells the other the whole truth and nothing but.
Then each gets a full STD check, shows the results to the other, and the same again three months later.
In the meantime, if you can't wait, take precautions - use condoms, dental dams, and only safe sex practices. This includes precautions around kissing and "minor" conditions like herpes.
Guaranteed to develop a high level of trust in each other's integrity and promote deep intimacy.

It’s nice to see so many sensible answers! When I saw the question I assumed everyone’s answers would be upsetting to me, like no one was worried about getting stds. Not that any one on here comes off as careless, but I've noticed that most people out in the real world get offended when they’re asked to take a test, and basically answer with “how dare you.” And then I see an article about how std percentages are rising or that we now have super chlamydia or something and I think yeah, because everyone thinks they’re too good for the test! But this thread might just be evidence that I’m seeing some skewed figures, or that I’m not giving people enough credit

The senior population and their lack of use of protection is amazing.  They think since they cannot get preggers they do not need condoms etc;M&F. My partner is always appalled at the number of Geriatrics M&F who believe this.  The numbers on the Asian and African Sex tours are amazing as well

I’ve heard that about the senior population, they’re still bangin like it’s the 60s, but I'm pretty sure we got about 3 or 4 brand new sexually transmitted diseases from that era alone. I do not know what the african and asian sex tours are though

Imagine a charter flight full heading to Thailand or the current African Hotspot full of horny guys and a few women.  You are there to bang as many prostitutes as you can in a week.

I have personally seen in Asia groups of these guys before heading out for the night drinking and bragging about which establishment they were heading to.  Pattaya (Thailand), Bangkok (sumkumvit, Soi Cowboy, Soi 33), Singapore the infamous 4 floors of whores shopping center and the list goes on.

The legal Red light Districts in the  EU are expensive, Asia and Africa are cheap.  though illegal the odds of prosecution are virtually zero

Jesus Christ, I've never heard of this but I could see it. the only part that really surprises me is the fact that there are any women on these things

Go to your local clinic and get tested together, this is what most responsible couples do now. Bear in mind that you'll still need contraception.

Convince myself?  If I had ANY inkling that some person had an STD I would need no further convincing.

If you both love each other, no one will have a problem getting tested. Just go to Planned Parenthood. That is if you got one in your area.

Zack, what about plain old lust?  Not every tryst is love-based, and sensible attitudes toward sexual contact can take place in situations like that.

My penis doesn't work that way. For me, love has to be in there somewhere. This post was edited by Zack at June 22, 2019 10:04 PM MDT

His or her sexual history or background can let you have some idea of any such case before you could ask him or her directly!
