When you hear people say "No one plans on kids, they just happen!" do you think to yourself, "Only if you're white trash!"

Kids don't "just happen", there are activities that precede the arrival of children, and steps you can take to avoid the illness known as pregnancy.

No, I don't hear that at all. I hear, "It's in the water."

Yes, they sometimes do "just happen". If someone thinks otherwise then they're the trash. No birth control method, other than complete abstinence, is 100% effective and many reasonable people don't believe in killing children before they're born. And then there's medical "errors" . . .

Had a friend who, along with his wife, tried and tried to have children. Turned out that they couldn't for some medical reason, or so the doctors finally told them. So they continued to enjoy each others affections sans protection because what was the "risk" at that point? They did go on to adopt two very lucky babies after giving up on bringing one of their own into this world.

Those two kids were raised in a very loving family and both were sent off to college. Ah! Empty nest time, time to kick back and enjoy life a bit. Except something changed for them medically, something that was not detected (who's looking for that anyhow, medicine is never wrong, after all) and the stork came a knocking even though the Mrs. was at the age of menopause by that point in their lives. (That third kid was also a joy and blessing to those people.)

And pregnancy is NOT an illness. It's a perfectly natural condition for the female of any mammalian species, including humans; quite necessary for the continuation of the respective species.  In fact, some OBGYNS have even opined that NOT being pregnant is a potential precursor to many serious illnesses for the female, a wide variety of cancers being at the top of the list.

I'm not sure exactly what the question is. You seem to have answered at least one of the possibilities yourself.

No, I am not sufficiently racist to think of "white trash".

Effective and disciplined use of birth control does reduce the occurrence of unplanned pregnancies, but does not eliminate them.

No, because I don't have the phrase "white trash" in my vocabulary. I am far too civilised to use such trollish language.

As for "No-one plans on kids, they just happen", there is no cut-and-dried rule. Sometimes they just happen, but most of them are planned. Oh, and pregnancy is not an illness, it is a perfectly normal and natural human function. Without it the human race would not exist.
