How much time do you give yourself (or did you) between your alarm going off in the morning, and leaving your home for work?

I give myself 2 hours,

30 mins: coffee and wake up

1 hour: shower and get ready

30 mins: relax before leave

  • I guess you didn’t have to plan out your outfit in the Navy. That’s a big time saver.

When my kids were young I would get up at 4:30  to have an hour to drink coffee in a quiet house before showering, dressing myself, waking them, dressing them, feeding them, doing the dishes (and sometimes putting in two loads of laundry), before leaving home at 7:10.  Thinking about it maked me tired.  As they got older and could dress themselves decently (using some random standard) (your standards change with time) I was able to sleep a little longer.  I never stopped "cooking" their breakfast and doing dishes before leaving in the morning.  They always had real warm food for breakfast.  I did buy toaster pops sometimes for after school snacks but never let them call it a breakfast.

  • Your kids are lucky to have you :) I don‘t think most parents take time for that anymore. I know I got sent out the door with a granola bar lol.

I don't bother with an alarm.
The kookaburra lets loose a raucous cackle an hour before sunrise.
If I don't rise immediately, the cat will pounce on me to demand her breakfast.
Once she's fed I have an hour or two to practice a few yoga stretches, some meditation and have some muesli and tea.
At 7, I go down to feed the horses. Depending on the day, I might go riding, get into several hours of hard weeding, or return to the house to read or write. The average day is split between research, writing and farmwork. Unless I have to be at the uni, which is two hours away, I work at home.

  • Waking up to birds or pets sounds much more peaceful than a blaring alarm, nice :)

  • I hear ya'.  If I give myself too much lull time before I have to leave I end up pacing with anticipation.  I can't relax at all after getting ready.  The waiting kills me.

That depends on if I went to bed the night before.
If so, it doesn't matter if it is summer or winter, Don's work has him up by 5 so I am up at 4:45 to make sure he gets coffee and chocolate in bed.
My work schedules vary from outrageously hectic to leisurely gentle.  It depends.
For me to start my day with a clear conscience and alert body, after Don leaves, 15 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.  I do wash my hair every now and again.
Picking clothes to wear is the longest dilemma.  The weather and where I'm going changes hourly.
