There would be an immediate shortage in many consumer goods before other countries could ramp-up production. Naïve people including Obama ask "can't we just make the stuff here?" and yes it could happen if the buying public is willing to pay $2000 for an iPhone and wait nearly a year just to somehow round-up the sheer scale of skilled and unskilled labor that it would take to get started.

The first thing you would notice is the price of food goes way up because Americans won't work on the farms. The next thing you notice is that a lot of stores go out of business, not because of prices, but because China is the only place they know of to get merchandise. Collapse would follow, followed by a dark age and a lot of smuggling.

And why would you think that either could possibly happen?
You know, it's said that if someone owes a million dollars and they can't pay then the are lost. But if they owe a billion dollars and they can't (or won't) pay then the banks are lost. That's the scenario with the USA and China, and China is the bank . . .
And to find out what happens in the real world just read a history book or two.
