If I have to talk about a 'Period', then it's seems fair that you should talk about the 'Colon'

A colon can completely change a sentence.

Mary ate her friend's lunch. 

Mary ate her friend's colon.

    I don't care what body part you talk about.  I really do not care.  Go for it.

    But don't mistake a period for a colon.  

    Colon's don't bleed out your weenit.  

    Colons' can make you cranky, for sure, but they don't make you cranky on queue once a month.  And Uteruses do not excrete food waste like the colon.  

    So there.
