I don't prefer blonde men. I'm more into the Latin look - dark wavy hair, olive complexion, good mustache on some men. The good part abut that is we will never ave to fight over the same guy. :)
OMG! I'm dying. I never even noticed that I posted under your response.
LOL! I meant that for the Goat. I guess he didn't notice either. You have my apologies. You were inadvertently "Twinked." but you played the game well. You're a good sport.
Maybe he was a sophisticated gentleman so when he shot someone in the head he kept his pinky finger up just like how the sophisticated gentleman drink tea. Cheers and happy weekend!
It's also something someone would say if they were writing a Novel, Broadway play, and movie about "Two Little Girls from Little Rock", lounge singers on a transatlantic cruise, working their way to Paris, and enjoying the company of any eligible men they might meet along the way, even though "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend."
Cast Jane Russel and Marilyn Monroe into the roles of Lorelei and Dorothy and you have a wonderfully Musical Rom-Com from the 1950's
Both the Broadway and the movie have the musical number "Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend’ ”, a jazz song introduced by Carol Channing in the original Broadway production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949), and written by written by Jule Styne and Leo Robin. Here ! Enjoy...I've chosen to highlight the more recognized version by Marilyn
So you see Dear Officegirl, the phrase is much more than a "space filler"

"Gentlemen" in the sense of the original hit book meant men in general. Men going gaga and deferring to blondes I guess because they were sort of a novelty - I don't know. My point was it just became a saying (which may have existed before that). I'm sorry but in my own experience I have not seen that borne out in real life. As far as the 50s movie is concerned I never saw it and though it may be the greatest thing ever there are other aspects of that decade I have chosen to take more to heart. After all Monroe was kind of lame don't you think?
Would point out that the same author's follow-up book was Gentlemen Marry Brunettes!
BTW I am a brunette, and though maybe only a minority of "gentlemen" have "preferred" me , nonetheless I am married.
Hah! Bravo for that wonderfully humourous retort. lol
You are indeed correct about that follow up book, buit it's a shame that there was no musical or movie based on that book. That may be attributed to the notion that most people go to movies and theatrical events in order to escape from the banality of their existence.
