Given that most wait staff are paid far LESS than the minimum wage ...
Fix the system in place before making changes. In Australia, Europe and just about anywhere outside the US, tipping isn't required - because staff are paid a living wage in the first place (of equivalent full time, many still struggle to make ends meet due to short hours).

The spurious argument that a legislated minimum wage costs jobs is a steaming pile of manure. Putting more money in the pockets of the lowest paid INCREASES employment opportunity as they spend it, unlike the uber rich who squirrel their tax cuts away in the Caymans, taking money OUT of the economy. When Johnny Poorperson can buy more, somebody has to manufacture the goods he wants, somebody else has to sell it to him. Mildly inflationary but it creates investment. High school economics - you must have slept through those lessons in your sophomore year.

  • Y'all people over seas always bro g up the waiting industry and the tip system while always ignore g the fact that most bartenders and waitstaffers rake in pretty good money.  The tip system works. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at July 21, 2019 2:58 PM MDT

Leaving aside the issue of Bernie Sanders and his politics -
I wish all politicians could leave their current accommodation and try to live for a year on a minimum wage -
with no help from friends or relatives, and no borrowing.
No, I wish it could be a minimum requirement prior to standing for election as a representative.
