I have not been subjected to racism, but at one time, I was subjected to anti-Semitism by a friend of someone I was seeing at the time.  I would just give him that dagger stare and ignore whatever he said.  Karma, being the lovely lady she is, took care of him for me.  Upon coming home from a weekend out of own to attend a  wedding, I was told that this person, who was riding a motorcycle, had a close encounter with a tree.  Only the tree survived.

When I first started at my last company in 1979, there was one black woman who worked in the cafeteria.  We actually had very few black employees - the minority rate in the city was quite low. Anyhow, the woman would serve smaller portions to whites and heap the plates of blacks. Having just been living in the Deep South, where racism was the norm, I had no problem with it. In fact, I kind of admired her.

I sell statutes. I had a man come up and say "I wanna buy me a N****r" I was taken back for a minute, I had never heard anyone speak like that. I told him I do not sell those. He said 'sure you do...there is one over there'
I told him, 'Sir, I do sell black statues but I will not sell it to you.'
I have encountered something like that only about 3 times total in 25yrs of business.

A coworker at a hardware store (part time job one winter) during the Clinton-Obama primaries. A man asked who I was voting for. I told him Huckabee. He told me he was voting Hillary cause Obama was just a little too dark to be his president. I told him I do not like Obama but it had nothing to do with skin, there were plenty of issues I disagreed with. And went on to do something else. Another time he was complaining about the possibility promoting a Mex man who worked with us. I told him that not right. He said his wife says the same thing and that 'he might be racist.' I told him 'she was right and he should keep that crap at home.' It never came up again.

I have a cousin who was chased by a group of black boys in high school. He out ran them so I do know what would have happened.

I have seen it most of my life, even in the Navy. It was implied by a parent of a student that I was racist for asking a serious question that offended a student. The vice principal kissed her a** and gave me a reprimand. That is the point at which I stopped going to work an hour and a half early.
