Of the novels you studied at school, which one stands out? What are the lasting impressions? Did the story affect the way you view life?

    No novel from school stood out like two short stories did.
    I'll name them if that's OK.

    "The Celestial Omnibus" by E.M. Forster - - I let it upset me. 
    Lasting impression - - I remember my discomfort still
    Viewing life -- the importance of being OK with my own personal and honest reactions/impressions of art

    "The Lottery"  by Shirley Jackson   -- the slow buildup, suspense and shocking climax -- reading it for the first time was practically an aerobic workout for me on a spiritual, emotional and physical level/s. Those would still be my lasting impressions. That story began my lifelong journey of reading everything I could get my hands  that Jackson wrote.
    Viewing life --  life can sometimes make no sense to me (that sounds so cliche to me, I'm disappointed in myself, ha)
