Check your premises. You will find at least one of them to be incorrect.  At least one.

And also, while you are speaking of "HELPING" Russia, do not ignore Trump announcing he is willing to assist Russia with their fires while California is burning to the ground.

Ask yourself why.  Ask yourself who's hand is getting bit and who is biting.  It isn't PUTIN doing the biting is it?

I used Russia and America as a reference point.....it could be about any country or even friendships

We didn't help them because we were friends, in the first place.
We helped them because "the enemy of my enemy".
We needed to take the pressure of our battle lines - so gave the Russians the means to draw some of Germany's forces away from us.

We did the same thing with China, against Japan.

I understand that ,but why does Russia bite the hand that helped them so much...it matters not which way around it is...why bite the hand who feeds you in your hours of need......

There just is no friendship between those two countries - never has been.
Their interests and values are incompatible.
At present the biggest deal is Syria.
Russia wants a port in the Mediterranean badly enough to do almost anything to get it.
And the military pundits of America sees that as a potential threat.

Trump's peculiar preferences are shared by only a very small band of men in big business: with merchants, national boundaries are not seen as obstacles to possible business. For them, the problems are merely matters of diplomacy. If there's a war, they'll find a back door.

As to friendships - no two human beings are alike -
so the more honest, open and vulnerable friends are
the more likely it is that one day their needs or values will clash.
If they know how to resolve their conflicts through good communication,
they'll grow closer, develop an ever richer and deeper friendship.
If either employs the wrong tactics, the friendship is damaged.
If the conflict continues long enough, the relationship's doomed.

    Same applies to countries.
