Maybe Greenland's price will be no cure for cancer or aids. Trump has been promising to cure cancer and aids - that would take trillions of dollars for research and I bet if Trump had to chose between putting a trillion dollars towards finding a cure for cancer and aids or buying Greenland he would buy the island. I was also thinking maybe Trump is confused like the Vikings were a thousand years ago - Iceland was warm and Greenland was cold but to fool the Vikings they called the cold one Greenland and the warm one Iceland. Cheers and happy weekend!

  • Can I get Mexico to cover my tuition if I promise to put Spanish on the curriculum?

In 1946 the U.S. offered $100M and was turned down. So, it's probably a little more than that now.

What was the idea behind that one?

I'm sure it wasn't to put up a golf course.

    Maddow then offered some possibilities.

    // <![CDATA[ cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: '1e091718-9bec-4792-996d-0f25b35c582d' , mediaId: '11d055ae-9585-4132-8b48-0d34058a1191' }).render('f3f8c6fcfbd1411f87a51d0be289833f'); }); // ]]>

“I mean if you know how his mind works, if you are going to play a joke on a president for whom nothing is off-limits and nothing is ridiculous as long as it might provide him something he wants, then pick something that would help the country or that at least would be harmless or funny in the long run,” she suggested.

“I mean now this guy is actually going to go try to buy Greenland — he’s due to go to Denmark next month. Right now it appears he actually thinks he can buy Greenland and he might try to on behalf of the United States of America in real life,” she explained

“And that would make for an excellent plot for a “Simpsons” episode. I’m sure someday this whole episode will make a hilarious off-broadway musical. Choose your jokes carefully with this particular mind. He will believe what you tell him. The fail-safes won’t work. The intelligence community will show up to brief him that, ‘Sir, it’s not actually possible for you to buy Greenland’ and he’ll dismiss them and call them the Deep State and the only hope we’ll have for shaking this idea loose out of his head will be if ‘Fox & Friends’ can be drafted on behalf of the nation to fact check this someday, to break the sad news to him,” she continued.

“How else do we get out of this problem now?

The Cold War made it an ideal spot for a military base because of its proximity to the USSR. We did end up putting an Air Force base there.

Thank you. Great stuff. So, the government wanted to use it to AID America?

And what does TRUMP want it for?

Ignoring the fact that we are in a GLOBAL CRISES the world has never encountered to put up a golf course there.

And we let him run the country.

Please don't assume I am a Trump-defender, but I thought Trump was looking at its value in natural resources which are becoming more accessible due to climate change causing melting. He is not the first to suggest this. I wish the media and others would stop the mocking and exaggerating and focus on real issues. No one is going to change anyone's mind about Trump at this point, but they do have an opportunity to bring attention to viable opponents who can beat him in 2020. Let's put our efforts where they will actually do some good.

Has the place been explored for oil like they found in Alaska?

The PLACE probably has loads of untapped bounty. However, the place is a barometer of the fact that we had better spend that bounty fast cuz we ain't gonna last.

Remember that Alaska was called 'Seward's Folly' back in the day. It cost just a few million $. That was over 100 years ago, and we are still here. In fact, the world is showing a DECLINING world population.

I'm willing to bet it cost more than a single-payer, Medicare-for-all national healthcare plan.

It just wouldn't be right to spend money at home to help people when you can purchase a new territory, exploit its resources and build a new golf course & hotel This post was edited by Jon at August 17, 2019 1:34 PM MDT

Here is my favorite part. Instead of looking at the horror of the situation, Trump wants to build a golf course. THIS is what passes for a leader.

  • Why don't we just buy Mexico instead? We won't have to build a wall. They are already here or coming in droves. We can tax the hell out of 'em them and have more revenue. They can surely benefit from the sell-off. From what I understand, they could use the money. Let's just annex Mexico. Watch out Jamie! Canada's next! God Bless America!

    No! No! No! No!
Don't make me take you over my knee for posting a subversive ideology, young man!

What we need to do is give Texas back to Mexico.
It's been a big bone of contention ever since we stole that Godforsaken hole from them.
All those rapists, criminals and drug dealers from Mexico want to go to Texas, anyways and many have 'familia'.
Economically, Mexico would just be another welfare state like Puerto Rico and Alabama.
Rather than sticking our fingers in a big old dike trying to block all of those peeps (some of who I assume are good people), just #giveitback and dig a big trench. I'm sure I speak for all of us, it gets tiresome getting puckered fingers from having to finger dikes!

As for Canada, Canadians would love to become the 51st state. In reality, if Canada did join the United States, each province would most likely be admitted as a state of its own, making Canada the 51st through 60th states. However, the phrase "51st state" clearly carries the subtext that all of Canada would have the power of just one single state. We'll rescue them from the shackles of Godless socialism and attractive Prime Ministers; providing them with all the bennies of our world-renown healthcare system.

But speaking of atttractive PM's, Justin could run for president. OH MY!!!

As an added bonus, consider all the money that will be saved on tariffs from poutine imports.

    !WIN!

  • OK.

My take away from all that bullshazabaloney is this...

    Cute prime ministers...good.

    Fingering dikes...bad.

    Am I right?

The cute PM's very good, indeed..

As for the dikes, sometimes the holes require an entire hand to plug. Very inefficient

Maybe we could suggest a site format change to JA so that all of the dialogue boxes look like comment balloons. LOL

I'm not sure which emotion came first. The hororr of the news or the frustration and sadness with the belittling of Greenland.
Who, in their right, mind wants to buy an island for golfing purposes and who cares so little about the travesty occuring there because of BIG countries, like us, who take things for granted.?
The whole subject has my undies in an uproar and the hair standing on my back.
That is, between the tears of sadness for all the apathetic pepole out there who DON'T Care about others and this Earth. This post was edited by Merlin at August 17, 2019 2:54 PM MDT
