Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» Do you ever feel like you want to just burn up all of your possessions and move to some secluded cabin in the woods? I do.
Some of us worked them out years ago without bonfires or solitary confinement. “’God’ knows“ I could be troubled by things I’ve seen, or how the world is, but I don’t dwell on things I can’t control. There is a great amount of peace in that. Life is too short to live it in discontent, my friends.
I have pondered that a few times. It was actually my goal when I was a kid too- to have a cabin in the middle of nowhere removed from society. Not surprisingly, my oldest son had the same inclinations when he was in junior high/ high school. I tried to help snap him out of it, but his English class had recently studied Thoreau. *sigh*
We do a lot of purges instead. This past summer, I think I took like ten loads to the donation center. The house and our moods are always so much better when we're clutter-free.
I asked that same question once and I thought the best answer was that by someone who did live in the woods. He said it is Too Lonely. It reminds me of a Monty Python bit where Erik Idle says he move out into the wilderness to a hermit colony. But the hermits at the colony were so annoying, he wanted to come back to civilization. A hermit colony, that's funny.
