Would a realm of absolute perfection be bad for one's mental health due to boredom?

What would be any purpose for eternal existence of mankind in such a state?

  • And there we have the paradox.

Poor mental health cannot exist in a realm of absolute perfection

A good example of why Utopia is not achievable

A few shots could help eliminate boredom -no hangovers.
    That would be perfect!

That would not be very perfect, would it ?

Perfection would include challenges and unexplored wildernesses, etc.

I perhaps could if there was such a thing -other than absolute non-existence.

Maybe one could say nature is perfect since it cannot do otherwise than stay within its own laws.

  • In that case, one could rephrase the question as, "is absolute non-existence bad for your mental health due to boredom?" ;)

    or,

"is nature bad for your mental health due to boredom?"

and I would have to answer "Absolutely not!"

Eternal state of joy and peace of mind seems to me as un-natural so could only be an imaginary thing.

  • Agreed.

Perfection is a human concept. What it is, to the subjective or collective mind, continually changes according to infinite variables. If it is ever attained, it soon passes.

This makes perfection an oxymoron of itself - a logical impossibility except within the strictest realms of definition such as mathematics and logic.

Or there is an entirely different way of looking at it. The following is a quote from "The Ten Principal Upanishads," c600BC

"This is perfect. That is perfect. Everything is perfect. Take perfect from perfect and the remainder is perfect."

Contemplating it has a tendency to create happiness.

A variant on that theme is - "No matter what happens to me, I can learn from almost everything. Everything is perfect opportunity to grow."

Yes, "Utopia is not achievable" .....in this world here and that maybe one reason why we have that world in the hereafter where it presumably is

I think you're alluding to paradise. Since that is a religious concept let's see what one religious scripture the HQ [short for the Holy Qur'an] has to say about it. As it turns out it has quite a lot to say about it but here are just two verses:

HQ 50:35 says, "In that [paradise] they shall have whatever they may desire - and [if they ever finish with that] there is even more with Us [waiting for them]" This implies infinite choice/variety

HQ 41:31 says, "We are close unto you in the life of this world and [will be so] in the life to come; and in that [life to come] you shall have all that your souls may desire, and in it you shall have all that you [can ever] call for" So it seems like you can call for a spell in hell too if that be your wish

The HQ has other descriptions of paradise which caught the eye of the agnostic Jewish author as she studied the HQ for a book she was researching for. She starts her short video presentation with those descriptions of paradise.

This is something I used to ponder all the time when I was younger when I was told all about "heaven".  I just have to believe that if heaven exists, I won't have the emotion of boredom.  I am sure hoping that everything is not white either and that pet hair is allowed on the sofa.
