If you have a leak due to a faulty faucet in the tub, what can you expect to pay if you call a plumber to fix it?

    While he's there have him replace the tub gasket too. It should be cheap and may save you grief down the road.

    Depends on if the leak is something they can fix without tearing into the wall.

    I would shut off the water, turn it on at the tub faucet (to release pressure) ... then remove the faucet and replace all gaskets and plumbing tape ... and replace the faucet.  Then see if it still leaks.

    I have no idea how to do that stuff.  I am paying and I don't know what is causing the leak. It is coming through the faucet, a steady drip and I don't know anything else.  I'm in denial.

    Just Google it and try fixing it. I once replaced a kitchen faucet without any prior plumbing experience.  Here are a couple of  YouTube video that I found. Looks pretty simple to me.

      I replaced the garbage disposal about two years ago, using YouTube was part of the project. It wasn't easy-peasy, and for a while there, I thought I'd have to give up and call in (expensive) professional help. I reviewed the videos again and again for last-minute inspiration, gave it one more spin, and would you believe that everything feel fell into place?  I was proud of the final product, and it's worked like a charm ever since, no leaks, no malfunctions.

    If it is a claw foot tub with faucets mounted on the tub,
    It could be just replacing a washer. The plumber I use is $130.00
    an Hour. It might cost that if nothing else.
    If the plumber has to replace the whole faucet assembly
    then probably another $30.00 or so, if he has it on his truck.
    If he doesn't have it then there is the time to go pick that up
    somewhere. But probably changing the washer would do it...
    Good luck. Changing the washer is quick and easy.

    First, I would try to fix it. After I destroyed it I would call my nephew who has been doing that kind of stuff for years. He recently replaced a bathroom sink faucet and didn't charge anything. We gave him $20 anyway.
