  • It’s the sports ball games conspiracy, making America fat one touchdown goal point score at a time.

I don't eat for the sake of any junk food and never ever watch any sporting events....I would much prefer to watch grass grow than observing guys playing with their balls for hours on end and screaming....

It is an American thing for the most part.  You get Deli (party) Trays for your friends then sit and watch the game since most entertaining is done in the home.

I rarely watch televised sporting events.  When I it is generally in the pub with friends, so unless you spend a lot your food consumption is minimal

Sports fans in countries other than the US don’t do it?

Randy not when you are in a pub/bar - you pay for your own Food & Beer.  Since most of us are cheap we do not consume that much.  Sports fans will eat maybe; Burger etc.  However they will not consume the huge Deli trays unless it is a party at someones house or event space.

Entertaining at home in small apartments is difficult.  We have a large place at 134 meters quadrat with a 38 meter quadrat balcony.  Think around 1200 sq ft 3 bedroom Flat.  The Nanny's apt is 55 meters quadrat and is bigger than most married folks apts

I will for the Stupid Bowl have some friends over with food and sleeping bags.  What is a 6PM EST start is midnight here (+ 6 Hours). I am lucky since I have both SKY and AFN Satellite Dishes.  Marine house follows the same order so to speak and they have a large public gathering area. It is 1.2 km from my Flat.  They have a great BBQ area as well, though most BBQ's are at my place - long story

We generally walk a lot and rarely drive when drinking.  Point .05 is our limit with mandatory jail fine from getting picked up till 1 year later.  Consequently we do not drink and drive

  • I think it's more driven by sports being an excuse for people to come together and one of the biggest side effects of people coming together is food.
