Did the victim recover from the first bout before experiencing the second?  

If the victim did, then said vic would again just be half dead.  Albeit, again.

If the victim did not, then the victim would be  whole dead.

First time = 1/2 of 1 = 1/2.
Second time = 1/2 of 1/2 = 1/4.

1/2 = 2/4.
2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4.
