I had a friend, Steve, who really enjoyed trying to outrun the police. He made the front page news on occasion. He told me that he had been out drinking with some buddies when he was pulled over by the Highway Patrol. The trooper knew him from previous stops, and immediately demanded the keys from Steve's car. Steve refused. The trooper then pulled the drivers side door open so he could get at the keys. That was a mistake. Steve hit the gas pedal and sped off. The trooper was struggling to hang on and get the keys at speeds reported to be upwards of 100mph. Eventually, he managed to stop Steve's car and arrest him. I don't remember what his prison term was, maybe 2 years or so.

Thank you. Oh, by the way, are some common misconceptions about high-speed police pursuits?
