A bit of both. All performers love the limelight, I'm no exception. Wanting to impress doesn't necessarily bring out the worst in people, otherwise nobody would ever get a job based on the interview.
I think CREATIVE people are a breed apart R. Whether the medium is music or paintings or dance or acting or composing. There is something within them that has to come out. They cannot be or do otherwise. That's why they (you) are called "ARTISTS". They articulate feelings in different ways that can reach observers prodoundly. Music can make me cry. Not because it's sad but because it's so beautiful. Same with poetry or a really wonderful story, I cried in Schindler's list more than once. From the shock but also the photography. It need not be BEAUTIFUL in the standard sense of beauty. It can be beauty of spirit or soul that you cannot see. You can only feel. Thank you for your reply. I don't know where creativity comes from. I wish I were creative but I'm an excellent appreciator of the creativity of others. My mom was and my sis is very talented. I'm their biggest fan! :)
