Nixon would have, but Ford pardoned him.

Thank goodness it's you who reminded me of that and not some jerk who would gloat at my forgetting something so unforgettable! How could I forget? Nixon got close but got "saved" just in time. Even so I remember how upset I was at Ford whose rationale was that it would be better for the country to pardon Nixon and move on. Don't you think putting the crook in prison would have been better R? I sure think so. The power of the pardon sucks! Of course I'm gonna ask. I think there should be brakes or restrictions on it. Thank you for your reply R! :) This post was edited by RosieG at September 26, 2019 4:50 AM MDT

No president would imprison a former president Rosie......it would me sheer madness as it could be himself that's imprisoned next.....
I would think most every leader does things for what a person living in that country would get life sentences for.

Is that the real reason WHY Ford pardoned Nixon D? He said it was better for the country to pardon Nixon and move on but I always thought that was bogus bullsh**. So he pardoned Nixon lest he be next on someone's hit list? OK. That makes sense. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday to thee! :)

Ford would never have been hit, he was King Log throughout his tenure and Goody Two-Shoes before and since. Mr Nice Guy, which is why he got clobbered in 1976 despite Jimmy Boring having nothing to recommend him. Nice guys never win.

Hahahahahahahahahaha! KING LOG? This is the first time I ever heard him referred to as that R! Now priorly he was usually referred to as a bumbling stumblebum who'd trip and fall over his feet. Clumsy. But KING LOG? As in dumb as brick? And Jimmy Boring? The guy who LUSTED in his heart? The peanut farmer? Mebbe during his tenure as prez he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer but after and thereafter didn't he do a lot of good? I think of Jimmy C as a good man with a good heart who tried to do what he could do to improve people's lives. I know he was heavily involved in Habitat for Humanity. Did he create it or just become associated with it? Thank you for your reply R! :) I think Ike was terribly underestimated and under respected. He is responsible for our national freeway system and ALSO for warning us again the evil of the Military-Industrial Complex! Himself a General made the warning all the more potent! :) This post was edited by RosieG at September 26, 2019 5:10 AM MDT

King Log as in he did sweet FA. Not dumb, just timid. That's still preferable to King Stork. It's one of Æsop's fables.
Carter was bland, beige and almost completely invisible in the WH.
Eisenhower was one of two postwar Presidents who was both a good man and a good leader, the other being Obama. Ike wouldn't have been nominated by today's GOP, far too "liberal".

Timid? That's a beautimous word that I never thought of in conjunction with Ford. Besides his pardon of Nixon he was most known for his wife Betty, an alcoholic. She opened the Betty Ford Clinic in the desert and spent the rest of her life trying to help alcoholics get sober. Maybe he was trying to be quiet low key stable to offset Nixon? Thank you for your reply R. Did you not admire Jimmy C for his attempts at brokering world peace here and there as well as the Habitat for Humanity? Just wonderin'! :) I know we've discussed Ike before m'dear. We totally agree on him and Obama too. Yep. D'ya think there are any more like that out there "foolish enough" to want to get into politics? It is treacherous terrain presently and maybe it will always be. I hope not. :) This post was edited by RosieG at September 26, 2019 5:50 AM MDT
