A buddy and I were going to do the 'open mic' thing, but the club closed for the evening. After closer examination, we came to the conclusion that only the top people make a good living at this touring thing. Sleeping in my car is not a good living.

It's not easy to write your own material unless you have a God-given gift.  It is a lot of work: making every performance sound fresh like it is the first time you ever said any of it..is not easy...at all. As hard as it really is, it would be so worthwhile to bring smiles and laughs to a crowd of people.
I don't have a natural gift, but if someone wrote for me I'd really give performing a try. I think it would be a lot of fun.

  • 1. If you're really good, it's because you're happy inside.

    2. Hecklers are harmless, so ignore them.

    3. Friends and people who love you are always your best audience.

    4. When you can laugh at your own jokes it means they're really funny.

    5. Comedy is just entertainment,  drama is serious art.

    6. If lots of people like your jokes you'll make lots of money.

    7. Women have no real sense of humor.

    8. Men can always take a joke.

    9. Making fun of other people is what comedy is all about.

    10. Loon should just shut up and send everybody nudes.*

    * Not really a misconception, but still true.

You should give classes on how to answer a question!

They are happy.  Some of them are among the most unhappy people in the world.  I've read this several times.

Probably that comedians are naturally funny people.

Woody Alan said people expected him to turn on the humour whenever they met him.
He answered, "funny is what I do, not what I am."

The great ones are sad and serious people who've studied how to turn stings into unexpected tickles.
