None of the residential streets in my hometown have lines ... and it hasn't caused any problems.

Considering the 2-lane highway I travel daily ... and the lines are only easily visible after dark, for the first 3 months after they are painted ... I don't think it would make a difference.

Most drivers know to stay on their half of the road, lines or not.
And the idiots who don't - don't care if the lines are there, either.

From the sound of your question, I doubt you could.

From the sound of your answer I doubt if I could either.

My pleasure. It was recorded by Debbie, a Haitian refugee who came here after the earthquake there. What a nice girl with a tragic story. Her sister was also my student. They were quite special to me. Dang I miss teaching. Best job ever. (Not a job.)

  • I've always been one to colour playfully outside the lines,
to live life boldly outside the lines, and
    love unabashedly outside the lines,
I see no reason why I shouldn't drive outside the lines too,
    or hey, even without them.
    Lines be damned.
    Let's floor it!

Where have you two been. People cannot live without you.

Answering the second part of your question first...
Few streets have lines in my area.
The ones that do are main roads with lots of traffic and greater risks.
I manage very well without them just by steering to my side of the road.
Where there are lines, I think they help as reminders about the dangers and about legal liability in case of accidents.
I know my very impulsive husband needs them. He would have been long ago dead without them.

    ~ ~ ~

Massage, healthy vegetarian (maybe vegan) foods, and politics have been the primary focus of your questions for quite a long time -
but I've never assumed that that's all of who you are.

When I think of you I think of someone who values alternative lifestyles and values.
I imagine your social circle of friends would probably be like-minded rather than diverse.
I think you are or have been a devotee of Sai Baba - hence inclined towards the Vedantist view of spirituality.
I think you place a high value on compassion and have no sympathy or tolerance for those who have none.
I think you feel all your emotions intensely and wear them openly, at least here on the Mug.

I imagine there's a lot more to you in real life, but I can't guess what those traits and interests might be.
    I guess you're probably a baby-boomer.
I think you might be single and without kids and possibly prefer it that way - but could easily be wrong.
I think you may have had other jobs and done other things in your life.
I can't guess anything about your ethnic, cultural, class or educational origins.
Maybe your parents were religious, perhaps Christians of some kind, one of them devout.

I'd love some feedback from you ~ to know how close to accurate or how far from the mark my guesses are. This post was edited by inky at October 24, 2019 7:36 PM MDT

Not at all, though I have never read any discussions of massage from you though know you give them.  But I know from when you were on AB that there are sides to you that you don't often choose to reveal to us on here.  You are one of most caring and interesting people on here but I just think you let your hate get the better of you.

Many streets have no lines, so we mentally supply them.  Some streets remain unpaved even here in the suburbs.

When I was a kid in the 50s, the only 'lines' painted on the road were down the middle. The paint was not reflective. We rode our bicycles down a state route highway to a town 20 miles away and back. We did not feel like we were about to get run over. A car or truck would pass by once every minute or two.

Sure not a problem....I just take my half out of the middle. LOL

Most of the roads I drive do not have lines. Small towns do not need them.
