Why does the younger generation in the U S think the rich "don't deserve their wealth" and should "give it back" to people for health care?

Likely because so few of that group of young people have earned any wealth of their own.

It is also indicative if how ignorant said demographic is as to who gives the most to charity. To a certain degree, it stinks of ingratitude.

They have grown up under Obama. Who said it is time to "share the wealth"...all they heard was "we (gov) want to give this so we will tax the rich."

And they are still hearing it now via Samders and Warren.

I don't think it's a generational issue ... it's more related to whether the individual has a job where they can pay their own way.  If they are making minimum wage, of course they are going to say "it's unfair" that they can't afford the same insurance as someone making more.

But to be fair, wages have not kept up with the cost of living.  And insurance costs seem to rise faster than any other sector.

  • They don't. Many just think the very top few percent should be taxed appropriately to give back to the good of the country instead of having lawmakers and policies that allow them to basically rob the entire system.

Some just don't think the system should reward shady rent seeking practices that benefits only billionaires at the expense of labor.. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 8, 2019 12:21 AM MST

Being jealous or envious of rich people and favoring a different system of paying for health care are two different things.  Universal health care would benefit a lot of people if the government didn't really mess it up but just punishing rich people won't really do anything for poor people.

NO it is not like that anti.  It has to do with the RICH illgeally getting tax breaks for wealth that can be used to finance free health care.  This is not some dream. This is actuality in countries that thrive like the dreaded SOCIALIST countries like Sweden and NORWAY that Trump loves so much.

They don't give all the wealth to the 1 percent.  We do, due to corrupt politics.

The progressives in this country are SHOWING you all how we can re-tool this method so that people of the middle class, the majority of people in the country need medical care as much as the poor people who don't even have a chance at a future.  Due to poor health availability. So we don't want the rich to die, all we want is the RICH to stop killing the rest of us. There is PLENTY of money. Do not kid yourself. It is being thrown into the pockets of billionaires.  And that just ain't fair.  They are winning the war and it is because people like you are buying into the b.s.

I did think of that, but the manner in which they GOT the tax breaks and the illegality of that process?  That will take several paragraphs.

I'll shorten it, if you trust me.    In short, Trump did a lot of work in office.  Passing tax cuts for billiionaires.  That is "legal" and makes one a simply HORRIBLE president to represent the middle class and poor.  Huh?  Even the rich non-billionaires are defending this creep.  Because they believe that they are going to lose more money if those EVIL DEMS get a foothold.

Screw them  all.  We need to SHARE the WEALTH a whole lot more.  And nothing to do with taxing the average rich joe.  The guy with two cars and two houses. Let him be. Let the moron with a house in each country and a personal jet of the week to pay for a few perks for us.  LET THEM FINALLY PAY SOMETHING.

Check out this ENTITLED MORON.  He is crying.  For himself.  He is just so put out.  About being criticized.

You can't entirely blame Trump for the tax breaks.
That law had to pass Congress, before getting to his desk for a signature.

Since it passed with the majority of Congress - that means the majority of America wanted it.
After all, they elected those people to Congress.

If the majority of America didn't want the tax cuts - they can elect somebody else, who will repeal the cuts.

    Walter, Are you SERIOUS?

The whole senate is in trump's pocket. Come on. Catch up already.  Please tell me you don't buy into the idea that the people vote on their senators. They don't even know half the time who is on the ballot.  The morons that vote for Lindsey vote that way because that has been the way they always voted.   They don't know and don't care who he is.  They like the things the way they are.  That is all they know.  The senate tells them what is up just as much as they think they tell the senate.  They listen to the boob tube and FOX and vote.  Fine.  That is not a legal representation of anything sane. But it is the legal way.  The illegal way is all the cuts they take and all the illegal activities they charge to the taxpayers that are ignored.  For starters.  Then the abuse of power is legend. Then the backing of Donald Trump, right or wrong makes them the most illegal pigs alive.  But if you want facts, I'll bring them.  I am driven.

CREW VOTERS PICK THE THREE MOST CORRUPT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

Most Corrupt: Michele Bachmann Most Corrupt: Vern Buchanan Most Corrupt: Mitch McConnell

Washington, D.C. — This year’s edition of CREW’s Most Corrupt Members of Congress report contained both familiar faces and brand-new entrants to the congressional hall of shame, but a few transgressors stood out from the pack.  CREW’s voters chose two House members, Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL), whose conduct has spawned multiple investigations, as well as Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), to share the title of the Most Corrupt Members of Congress.

Rep. Bachmann faces a spiraling investigation into possible criminal violations connected to her failed 2012 presidential campaign, resulting in her first appearance on CREW’s list.  Rep. Buchanan, on the other hand, has now numbered among CREW’s Most Corrupt five times for an extensive, illegal conduit contribution scheme that funneled money to his campaigns from employees and business partners connected to his car dealerships.  Although the Federal Election Commission and House Ethics Committee took no action against Rep. Buchanan, and the Department of Justice reportedly closed its probe into his actions, several other investigations are still pending.

“Rep. Bachmann could now give Rep. Buchanan a run for his money when it comes to egregious campaign finance violations,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “On the other hand, given that Rep. Buchanan walked away scot free, Rep. Bachmann may not have too much to worry about.”

Sen. McConnell, meanwhile, made the list in light of revelations his staff may have conducted opposition research for his reelection campaign on official time.  The minority leader, who was crowned Scoundrel of the Month earlier this year over the episode, has previously been named to CREW’s Most Corrupt list four other times.

Nominations are already being accepted for October’s Scoundrel of the Month.  People, entities, and agencies are all eligible.  Submit your choices by Friday, October 25th. Voting will begin the following week.

If people choose not to vote - they are not making NO choice.
They are choosing to go with the status quo, and let other people decide.
Thus, it is still the "will of the People".

I would say "apathy" rather than "boredom".
They don't care how the government is run, and choose not to participate.
Therefore, they don't care whether there are tax cuts or not ... and are willing to go along with whatever someone else decides.

  • Just because a representative approves something, does not mean the people represented wanted it or even know about it.  False equivalency foul,  10 yard penalty.

    Try again.

"Don't know about it"?  Congressional votes are a matter of easily accessible public records.  If someone cares enough to rail against Trump for signing the law, they can easily find how their representative voted on the law.

If the majority of people DON'T want what their representative votes for ... they have the power and authority to vote him/her out of office.

Therefore; failure to change their representative carries the implication that the majority of people either DO want what that person voted for, or don't care either way.

    The real questions are...
"Why do the wealthy feel that they are entitled to pay fewer taxes than the majority of US citizens?"
    and
"What percentage of the US middle/lower-income population's brain is so badly damaged that they believe that Trickle-down economics will benefit them?"

Two similar quotes come to mind:

"If you're not a socialist before you are 25, you have no heart; if you are a socialist after 25, you have no head."

"If you aren't a liberal when you are young, you have no heart, but if you aren't a middle-aged conservative, you have no brain."

The latter has been attributed, apparently falsely, to Winston Churchill.
