    Not sure, but I'm guessing they believe it's more feminine.  My hair is short.  It's more flattering for me, so nuts to the "trend."  I've had long hair and short is much easier.  I wake up in the morning, run my fingers through it and off I go.  As a friend of mine once said, wash-n-wear.
