When women give birth in westerns, why is water always boiled?

    To give the man something to do that will occupy both his mind and his time, and to get him out of the way. He wants to be useful, he does not know how the hot water will be used, nor will he ask.

    Exactly. When my children were born (at home), my job was to get towels. I didn't have to boil anything, though.

    They could also ask the guy to heat a knife or iron.  lol

    Plus, for cleaning afterwards.
