I don't know the answer to that. I've always thought logic should be as compulsory as reading, writing and arithmetic, starting from 7 years old.
I know that back in the 1950s the USA was deeply alarmed that Russia beat them into space. The US started researching what it took to raise bright kids and it became a leader in the pedagogic strategies that produces geniuses. For a time, the US put heaps of money and effort into its public education - and it did produce a generation of talented people in many disciplines.
But from what I've heard, the US has subsequently dumped down its education, and now only the elites who can afford the private schools who are producing the majority of the top students.
You are pretty much correct. Teachers have to buy their own supplies oftentimes, the education budget is so paltry. WHY? WHY? TRUMP. THAT IS TOTALLY WHY. GOP Senate. Dr. Ben Carson is the Director of Housing and Urban Development. Do you know that one? Oh my GOD. All I can say. Betsy DeVoss, a cut-throat moron who is a multi-billionaire and is told to cut bugets on EDUCATION is the Director of Education under Donald Trump. She has no experience in government or in any educational operation. EVER.
Trump is neither a good administrator nor a good leader. He has alienated so many of his own people that his available choices are down to those who are desperate and have few scruples; they'll do his bidding regardless of the consequences. The dumbing down could be deliberate. There is another more sinister possible reason: an uneducated populace is easier to persuade and sway with populist arguments which don't pass the scrutiny of fact-checking and logic.
We have dumbed down so much that a wackadoodle egotistical liar draft dodger probable traitor is our president. All the signs of what he is were evident. It mattered not. His election is not the result of intelligence. Quite the opposite. I did not know that the US was researching how to raise bright kids. Certainly this current administration would sabotage any such plans. They feed off dumb. That is why they are there. Sad that. Thank you for your reply bw and Happy Friday! :)
