The viol family of instruments all traditionally have 4 strings. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 1, 2019 7:37 AM MST

My cousin plays the giant fiddle in the Birmingham, Alabama symphony. He has 4 strings.

The ”giant fiddle”? Is that what they call it in Alabama?

That's what I call it. Back when we were teens, it was hard to get him to stop 'practicing' on that big ugly thing and join us other guys on motorcycles. He had a 1971 Honda 750, a cool bike in those days.  He gets to play background music with famous musicians, however.
