When I come home my cat screams at me (very loudly) - "Where have you been! How dare you leave me!" My dog, on the other hand, stays under the kitchen table with a toy in his mouth.
While I'm gone, one of many cats rolls himself up in a blanket and sleeps, the other cat coils up in his kitty bed and sleeps. My dog, however, gets up on everything and looks for food.
My experience with cats has been that they meet you at the door when you come in, IF they are not napping or staring at a bird from a window, keeping the home place safe.
