Different ways of living have been tried through the years. At one point Communes were in favor among some groups. They seemed to be idyllic. Would such a lifestyle appeal to you? Why?.

    I prefer voluntary associations.  In this context that means communalistic (as opposed to communistic), tribal societies with small, situational/participatory governments.  Such systems generally require very little oversight over populations which do not exceed the average sized city.  The members of such society govern themselves by mores, taboos, etc.

    The trouble with a commune is that it attracts people who don't want to work. The only successful American commune is the Oneida Community, and that is only because it has the silverware business to support it. www.oneidacommunity.org/

    The modern version of togetherness is the Home Owner's Association. That has been a source of a lot of misery as people are forced to realize that you just can't delegate personal responsibility.
