When dining out, are there any SPECIFIC ways you order a particular menu item, such as a substitution or something like that?

I’m not a coffee drinker, but when I want a hot beverage, it’s either tea or cocoa. The latter, I ask for it to be as hot as possible, and no whipped cream nor marshmallows in it.

Any time I order a sandwich/hamburger, I say (I really do), "If that comes with mayonaise on it, please leave it off."

Are we related? I don't like coffee, either.
    :)

  • Well, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants puts red sauce on their burrito mojado by default, but I always request green (tomatillo) sauce instead and they're happy to do it. There are also many items for which I request "no cheese"  (I am not a fan of cheese).

I want a coffee. I want cream.  I want water with ice.  I don't get all nutsy and ask for as hot as possible. WHY?  How can you drink it?  Why do you need it that hot? That's like my mom. She wanted coffee so hot no one but she could drink that.

To each his own, but having been a waitress, I don't like to overburden the help.  Bring it and I'll drink the darned thing. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at December 29, 2019 9:12 PM MST

There you go again, projecting Sharonisms willy-nilly.  If you have your preferences that differ from other people's preferences, why do think you have to badmouth anything that doesn't exactly mirror the way you like it?  Perhaps I don't necessarily "need" it that hot, I WANT it to be that hot.   How can I drink it?  I'd prefer it start out hot rather than they serve it lukewarm.  Guess what?  Newsflash: a lukewarm beverage doesn't become hotter with the passage of time, but a hot beverage can either be consumed as it is or it can cool slowly and be enjoyed to the satisfaction of the person who is drinking it.  It's not required for you to agree with how I like to drink it, nor is it required for me to align my choices to your whackjob opinions.  I do not tell you that you cannot drink coffee because I do not drink coffee, I accept the fact that you like it and I do not.    HAVE your coffee, HAVE your cream, HAVE your water and enjoy them.  You are not "nutsy" based on drinking something that I do not drink, just as much as I am not nutsy for drinking something that I like.  Nice way to ruin a pleasant conversation.

You don't even get a tilde for this one.

If I'm out with my better half, I ask for gluten free. She has Hashimoto's.

Hashimoto's disease is an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system attacks the thyroid gland, making the patient hypothyroidic. The proteins in gluten suppress the effect of iodine on the production of the thyroxin hormone. In a person with a normal thyroid, this suppression is not significant. In a hypothyroidic person it can shut it down completely, resulting in an enlarged thyroid gland which can lead to breathing difficulties as the airway becomes narrowed.

I love, love swiss hot chocolate with marshmallows AND whipped cream then leave the can of whipped cream at the table.
My honey can attest to the fact I've been on a "lets eat something different" for a while.  Today we had a nice lunch at an oriental restaurant.
The food was wonderful but his thoughtfulness was the best part.
