Here’s fodder for an argument: did a new decade begin January 1st, 2020?

Or will it begin on January 1st, 2021?

Great answer and I love this song!  It's a great workout song and dance, too.  Oh, and a great way to answer this question.

  • Thanks Kittigate. I've grown tired of people voicing the mistaken notion that this year of 2020 is the first year of a new decade. It's surprising that so many folks wouldn't survive "Final Jeopardy" as they like to use variations of this question.

  • A decade is any period of 10 years. Decades that we give names are named according to the digit in the tens place. The decade called "the 2020s" began on January 1st, 2020.

  • There's an Asian calendar.  A Jewish calendar. The Gregorian calendar we all know and love.  And let us not forget The United Federation of Planets Stardate calendar.  So who the hell knows.  Any way you slice it...ain't none of us gettin' any younger.
