What are some common misconceptions about driving across desert terrain*?

*This does not refer to highway hardtop that bisects the desert, it refers to the actual desert floor, rubber on sand and rock and cacti.

I never drove across desert terrain.  Neither has most of my family or friends.  So, don't call me uninformed.  Yeah, there are a lot of people who have, but most have NOT.

SO who's the numbnut?  Your brain is misinformed.  Mine is informed. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at January 4, 2020 11:57 PM MST

I've only driven on the road.  It wasn't so much a misconception as just ignorance as to the possibility of wind.  On I-10 before you get to the mountains in Arizona there are signs cautioning about the wind, and by golly they knew what they were talking about.  The first time I drove that stretch it was really a job keeping my car on the road.  Very scary.   It has never been that bad again.  Wouldn't you know...first time luck and all......

That the best car for doing it isn't the Volkwagen Beetle. Ever see that episode of Top Gear where they drove clear across Botswana? The only car that made it without any modifications or repairs was the bug.
