Discussion»Questions»Names» When was the last time you said the word “Hey” or the words “Hey, you” in order to get the attention of someone whose name you did not know?
Spoken, about two days. I haven't spoken with anyone but Don for a couple days. Written, about a day.
I use "hey" because I say it with a smile. It flows smoothly and seems more friendly. It's not as abrupt and short as "Hi."
Obviously, this is only my opinion but "Hey" is received more welcoming. "Hi," these days, seems like the receiver is immediately expected to answer with "Hi, (fumbles with the next words,) how are you?"
Some may say "hey" is slang. It is. It depends on the situation and environment I am speaking and with whom.
Language is ever changing.

Randy D, I came back and erased the "ago" at the end of both sentences. See how good you are in training us how to write correctly? You didn't even have to say a thing. Because you liked my response, I came back, saw my error and fixed it. You HAVE rubbed off in a Positive way. Thank you. :) :)
