    "The proof is in the pudding" is a shortened version of:
    "The proof of the pudding is in the eating"

    Meaning you must taste it to know if it is good.  Similar to "You cannot judge a book by the cover."


    Pudding often has things in it. Fruits, cookies, candies, etc.
