Ever visit THE PETRIFIED FOREST in Arizona? Buried tree trunks have been turned to STONE by mineral-laden water. Ever see a petrified tree?

What about a petrified person? Someone frightened afraid terrified horrified turns to stone becomes rigid and immobilized mentally. Can petrified persons ever unpetrify or is it a one-way street with a dead end?

I can only really answer the literal question there! Yes, thanks to the geological setting of where I live I have seen fossil tree-trunk parts and fossils of algae accumulations that once surrounded dead trees. I even have a small piece of fossil tree-trunk or branch. (I found it among some quarry waste.)

On the figurative side, I think a terrified person can overcome that fear but it obviously depends on the situation and individual.

Thank God for another literal answer person here. I thought I was the only one. Holy crap...I also found a fossilized piece of tree branch in a limestone wall at a park. I gave it to a geology professor at our university and he varified it. It even had a bit of opalization in it. He said he had never seen one before. About 300 million years old or more. Thank you for your reply Durdle. Does the piece of fossil FEEL like marble or stone? Is there any give to it at all? As for overcoming terror I wonder if you really ever can overcome it do you just bury way deep inside you? Happy Monday! :)

I found it in a limestone wall in a local park. I pried it out and noticed it had visible concentric rings. I gave it to a geology professor at our university and he varified it was part of a fossilized tree branch. I let him keep it for display.

Yes ,they destroy so many forests in America and all around the world with chainsaws Rosie....it's totally irresponsible what huge logging companies are doing theses days...

Well the destruction will accelerate geometrically thanks to don. He has rescinded all protections for all our national forests so anyone can come in and start cutting down trees, building shopping centers, fracking, denuding...all to make big bucks. SIGH. He is a destroyer par excellence. Thank you for your reply D.  T'is a pity. More's the pity. I wish I could rewrite November 2016. It would have a much better ending. I think there is a question there which I am obligated to ask.

Due to conservation efforts and logging improvements, the US has more forestation than it did 100 years ago.

You cut down your forests to make wood pellets for us Brits to burn in out carbon natural powerstations....one third of all wood felled  goes in drying out the pellets before being loaded in to tanker ships,..
The wildlife displaced by logging make those critters and bird homeless to....  :(
That in a Turn makes Juggs sad. :(

No, but I've been to Coober Pedy. Fossilized trees and dinosaur bones turned into opal. Pretty as well as fascinating.

Are you allowed to touch anything R? Opal is my birthstone. Ever see a FIRE OPAL? It is dazzling! I'm going to Google Coober Pedy. It sounds like goober which I think is slang for peanut. I'll find out. Thank you for your reply R and Happy Monday/Tuesday to you! :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 11, 2020 12:54 AM MST

My piece has broken ends but I do intend to trim and polish it, to reveal whatever growth-rings or opal it holds.
