Well, after my 'paratrooper' father was finished fighting the enemy in Flanders, the townsfolk put up stained glass windows in their church with little soldiers coming down from the sky hanging on to their parachute lines. And lest we forget, there is that poem entitled; 'Flanders Fields' by Joyce Kilmer.
Have been there. Beautiful Gothic and Medieval architecture. The strongest and finest linen fabrics and some of the most exquisite hand-made lace in the world. There are studios where you can see people making it.
Outdoor cafés with some of the best food in the world.
Art galleries and museums full of masterpieces.
Theatres where the top musicians, dancers and actors in Europe come to play.
Who could not love Flanders?

Why not? There is much to see and do there and the biking is fantastic, along with the food and Bier. Ghent is a treat, Brugge excellent while Ypres solemn
Ypres has the Menin Gate which is a monument to the Dead of the Somme Battlefields. It is the testement to 54,000 plus soldiers who have no known grave. The evening Last Post is moving; For our tomorrows they gave us their today's.
Amien in France is the same, however w/o a Menin Gate. It is also one of the most polutted places on earth due to the carnage and poison gas of WW1. short drive from Flanders
