No. Wilson is common. A name used by a President of the U.S.  Also was a British Prime Minister. However, all the more well known people are from my mother's side of the family.

The only reason I would say yes is my father, like yours, disappeared when I was young; so I never did like my surname. It would have been a pain in the a** to change it to my mother's family name.

In my case, I neither have my biological father’s surname, nor do I even know what it is.

Similar situations...but we both succeeded. Good for us.

I don't know if you would call my surname 'common', it's not unusual though. My problem is that it has a dozen or more spelling variations. I can spell it out and people will still write it down the way they think it's spelled. I have learned to accept it.

I know of one way you can change it, Baby.

(Heck, you’re always down at the county courthouse several times a week anyway to file your ridiculously frivolous restraining orders.  Our marriage license can be obtained just a few doors away from the Clerk’s Office. Grrrrrrrr.)

Sorry, I have no interest in trading one man's name for another.

Then I’ll take your surname instead. We‘ll go non-traditional, just like every other aspect of our relationship.

Just between us, Jane S is NOT my real name.

(I wonder how many people here know that Randy D isn’t my real name either. It has practically no relation to my real name except that one letter is correct.)

I, for one, had no idea. I suppose that's why the restraining orders were never enforced.

i don’t know about my married name because its ethnic and im unfamiliar with the origins of it, but my maiden name was colby, like the cheese. i think it’s fairly uncommon but i still never really liked it because i wanted a cooler one.
