Personally, I think that although preschool and school teach our kids the basics of things like mathematics and literacy, it ultimately falls upon us (the parents) to help our children work out how they learn, and follow up on the school education, helping with homework and things they don't understand. Also, things like how to social at events, and how to treat people and so on.
Parents are a big determiner in children's interest in learning and self-teaching, and I think the biggest thing we can do to help children learn is to teach them how to enjoy learning and how to learn.
Oh, absolutely.
That's one of the main reasons we didn't send our kids to any public or private indoctrination camp, I mean "school".
Most definitely ... And possibly add important is to let them see your own continuing education as part of a normal life... Get them used to the idea that education is not just about school, it's about life and being the best you can be ... As Francis Bacon said, a man is but what he knoweth.. I think he meant us girls too though!
i think so
That's true - learning never stops!
I prefer to tell them lies about Bogeymen, tooth fairies, and Jesus and stuff.
Agree. That's why we home schooled. All three graduated from college much sooner than most people their age.
Involved. Yes.
Smothering. No.
Children learn from several sources. At a guess it is something like: Peers 35%, Parents 30%, School 35%. There is no way you can control it all. Nor should you ;-))
Public schools do not teach basic anything. They stopped teaching civics slowly, 1940 to 1960 or so. They stopped teaching arithmetic around 1960. The only thing the educators care about is avoiding public embarrassment. The only thing parents want is an all day baby sitting service.
If you are a parent, your child's education is your responsibility.................no one elses.
