Do you ever find yourself thinking . . .

gosh here's an interesting Mugger, I'd really like to know more about him or her? But there's no real way to do so. Especially these days, when so many people have an ulterior motive, and people just can't be trusted. The most you can really do is to 'friend' them.

Over the combined decade that I’ve been on this site and its predecessor, AnswerBag, I’ve expressed a curiosity or two about some of the people, but it hasn’t been common for me to do so. In their posts, be it question, answer, comment, poll, or statement, I may glean what I want to know about how someone thinks, what someone likes or dislikes, what someone believes, etc. There is also an opportunity for me to ask directly in a post of my own. Lastly, as you’ve stated, if we are on each other’s list of friends, I can send a private message.

Thanks for the response. Of course, to pursue any interaction fully, geography would always be a problem. And, unless there were exceptional circumstances too, electronic correspondence tends to falter and fade after a while. I wonder how many people we have enjoyed interacting with here, and on AnswerBag, are now dead. In most cases we would never know (and the older participants tend to be the most interesting in my experience). This post was edited by Nyse Elias at April 12, 2020 4:57 PM MDT

Some members here have contact with other members beyond these pages, and they keep each other apprised of what’s going on in their lives, some even have third-party contact with members’ relatives and/or other friends, through whom they stay apprised of any life-changing events. If I were to die tomorrow, I believe that my absence from these pages might go on for several weeks or several months before the realization would sink in that I wasn’t ever going to return.

I'm still trying to guess your age from your responses. I think I'm getting close, but I shan't divulge my final guess.

He has been through the military. That is a clue to his age.

Perhaps, but someone who has been in the military could be anywhere from 22 to 92.

NJ, I’ve never asked you anything about your personal business, I’ve never been curious about you.

By hiding in the wardrobe and “watching over” you, I was able to learn everything there is to know about you, which is why I no longer have the urge.

...so many people have an ulterior motive motives. Different people (plural) do not all share a singular motive.

To answer your question, not very often.

That's a really thoughtful question.. No, I don't think I have thought that.. By that I mean, I've never had the fear of worrying that people aren't to be trusted. Most often I have had the problem where I'd like to know more and know them better, but they don't seem interested :P
