Both spilled and spilt have the same meaning, the past tense of the verb “to spill.” The only difference between the two is that spilled is the standard spelling for American English and spilt is the standard spelling for British English.
Inquiring minds want to know why, as an American, you would use "spilt" and not spilled?
Red wine all over the front of her beautiful new blouse. It was completely an accident, and I was both shocked and horrified at my clumsiness. I immediately suggested that she step into the next room, take off the blouse and hand it to me so that I could run it right over to the one-hour dry cleaner’s a block away. She did it, and found out that it had soaked through to her bra also, which was white in color. I took that to the cleaner’s too . . .
