(It was the first thing to come to my mind.)

    :)

But, yeah -  I probably do believe. I think there's a lot out there we may not know.

I keep an open mind on that one.. my tendency is towards disbelief but I am willing to be convinced otherwise

At the tennis club we clean(ed) we periodically heard the squeak of tennis shoes, the men's locker room door open and once I heard a tennis ball bouncing toward me. When I turned around there was nothing. Oh, when we clean, we are the only ones there.

       .... And?
         .... And????
It's going to haunt me now!  What happened?
Did you set up a camera or set a trap?

We just hear things. Just some former members who died and still want to play. Nothing to worry about. I think they like the company when we are there.

That is awesome! Thank you for letting me know.  There are many spirits that hang around on earth.
I think all their reasons are personal.  Maybe they actually wanted to finally meet you and your wife.
    One will never know...
Thanks for wrapping this story up for me.
    Happy! Happy!

You mean the etherial presence of
    someone who hasn't completely
passed over and let go of their
    physical body? Then Yes
    but the term Ghost is
    not really represented
    with a true understanding.

Not at the moment, but I remain open to new evidence.

My experience with a so-called ghost one time led me to believe in some sort of residual energy or force of a deceased person.

I have my doubts, but I don't entirely dismiss the possibility. My wife, however, is from the Caribbean and firmly believes in jumbees. She often talks about them:

jumbeejumbie or mendo is a type of mythological spirit or demon in the folklore of some Caribbean countries. Jumbee is the generic name given to all malevolent entities. There are numerous kinds of jumbees, reflecting the Caribbean's complex culture and ethnic makeup, drawing on African, Amerindian, East Indian, Dutch, English, and even Chinese mythology.

Different cultures have different concepts of jumbees, but the general idea is that people who have been evil are destined to become instruments of evil (jumbee) in death. Unlike the ghost folklore which represents a wispy fog-like creature, the jumbee casts a dark shadowy figure.

What I know is that there are presences that we can't see.  Call that what you will.

    Nope.

My reasoning is this:  If I can't see someone's "soul" when they're alive, it's not likely I can see it when they're dead.
So if ghosts were real, it would be like that fight scene from Chronicles of Riddick, where you could see the ghost of the person as they moved.

If the soul is incorporeal (not composed of matter) in its nature, is it not possible that it is simply not possible for it to be perceived by normal human vision?

Then they would not be visible after death, either.
Since believers claim ghosts can be seen, then they can't be incorporeal and would be seen prior to death.

We are presently unable to determine whether we are actually "seeing" a ghost or simply becoming aware of a disturbance in our visual field that the ghost itself produces at will when it wants to make its presence known to an observer.

Ergo, whether a ghost is incorporeal or not cannot be determined. This post was edited by tom jackson at April 21, 2020 10:54 AM MDT

The same can be said for fairies.  I don't believe in them, either.
Nor do I believe Elves once existed on Earth, and left for another realm/dimension.

As always, the burden of proof is on the positive.

it has been said whoever makes a claim carries the burden of proof regardless of positive or negative content in the claim.

The fact that you do not believe in fairies and Elves and their possible present and past existence is hardly dispositive of whether they do or did once exist---just like the issue of the existence or non-existence of the Abrahamic God---it doesn't depend on our belief or non belief.

There is sufficient reasonable doubt to think both positions are sustainable.

You can't prove a negative, because lack of evidence {of a thing} is not accepted as evidence that the thing doesn't exist.
Thus, the burden of proof is on the positive.

If an archaeologist dug up the fossilized remains of a fairie or Elf, or the remains of their civilization, I would accept that they once existed.  Tales told for entertainment or moral education are not evidence of anything other than the storyteller's imagination.

As to ghosts, I could just as easily claim they are proof that our reality is nothing other than a computer simulation.  They are not the souls of the dead - merely traces of data that was incompletely overwritten.
