Do you think bars and restaurants should be allowed open for business provided patrons must wear face masks?

You  can't really eat or drink with a mask in place.  The only reason to go is to socialize and that is where the problem lies.  I don't think anywhere that involves eating or drinking should open right now.  Stores, outdoor spaces, theaters (perhaps with lots of empty seats), and home/hardware/building material sources should be able to operate.  But everyone talks about bars and restaurants and, to me, it seems like common sense says no to them.  But remember, I don't like to eat out and don't go to bars.   This post was edited by Thriftymaid at April 22, 2020 8:43 AM MDT

I saw a mask for sale the other day, with a flap over the mouth that could open for eating/drinking.
    I laughed.

Risky proposition at present, but with much better screening and PPE, maybe.

It doesn’t escape my notice that while -what-  a few hundred thousand cases are known (here in the US), that still means 329,000,000 people aren’t sick. Yet. We are still early in this game, and it doesn’t close out until there is a treatment or a vaccine.

Of that 329,000,000, some may have already had the virus with no symptoms, some may have had symptoms and gotten over them without needing hospitalization and some may have a natural immunity for one reason or another, which is why we won't have solid information or numbers unless and until everyone is tested.  The prospect of that happening decreases every day since this administration doesn't think it's necessary.

It’s so much about re-election, about appearances, about inventing false credit while deflecting and assigning blame.

An old saying goes, “War is old men talking and young men dying”. It seems the current version of pestilence is an old man lying, his lackeys enabling it, and others paying dearly for it.

I can't honestly think of one good thing Trump has done for the country unless it was an unintended consequence of something he did to benefit himself, his family or his business.  He is not that altruistic.

Yes! Then you get all the social interaction without the added calories. I like it.

You can just slide the mask up over your eyes if you want to eat.

Or just use a straw under the mask for the drinks :)

Bars no. Much more contact for longer amounts of time in a bar.

Restaurant.  Perhaps depending on the numbers in the area. Of course capacity should be very limited. Strict cleaning/disinfectng of tables/seats in between customers.

Speaking of capacity ... I've seen signs on a couple stores locally, notifying that they have reduced the number of customers they allow in to only 1/4 of their previous capacity to allow for maintaining "social distancing".

Yes. Most are counting number in/out. And have to wait if number is at max inside.

No and yes. No: It would increase the number of drunk driving incidents. Yes: It would decrease the number of drunks. This could take place if they used Jaimie's idea of using straws.
