Regardless of why it’s there, what’s a food in your refrigerator that you know for sure you won’t eat, and why won’t you?

A. _________, because it’s now expired and/or rotten.

B. _________, because at one point, I thought I wanted it, but now I’ve changed  my mind.

C. _________, because it belongs to someone else in the household, I do not have permission to eat it, and I respect other people.

D. _________, because it belongs to someone else in the household, I do not have permission to eat it, and I don't want it anyway.

E. _________, because Randy D gave it to me.  ‘Nuff said.

F. __________, because Jane S made it for Randy D, and the Poison Control Center response time in my area is severely lacking.

G. __________, because it was given to me, I only took it to be polite, but as soon as garbage day rolls around . . ,

    None of the above ---

     Long story short --

The little individual-serving size container of applesauce has sentimental value. It was given to me by someone being very kind to me, mistakenly thinking I "needed" food and -- long story short, I "let" him think I needed it. He's a very kind person still and I still smile when I see it in the refrigerator.

    :)

Yes, Michele.   A long time ago, my sister gave me an apple off her tree.  I put it on the top shelf of my refrigerator, intending to eat it in a few days.   Unfortunately, I forgot all about it.  When I cleaned out my fridge a few months later, I came across the little guy.  Poor thing had developed vitiligo, as there were white patches on its skin.  Feeling sorry for the poor thing, I left it in the fridge.  A few months later, I checked in on it.  I guess the fridge had gotten too cold, as the apple had grown a thick fur coat (hid its vitiligo nicely).  How could I toss out an apple with vitiligo who had just grown a nice fur coat? I mean that would be cruel.  So I left it in there (as a joke, I named it Michael).  I guess Michael had a bit of incontinence, as when I checked in on him again there was a trail of pee from him to the carton of milk on the other side of the shelf.  I also noticed that he was a bit bloated as well.  Over the next few weeks Michael grew bigger and bigger as the bloating continued to intensify.  There a also a strong smell of methane in the fridge (apple farts?).   The next time I checked in on Michael, I was in for a big surprise.  A tiny green leaf was staring to emerge from the center of the bulge.  Michael was a Michelle.  I’m sure as heck not going to eat Michelle!

Bag of romaine lettuce. I know it is starting to wilt. So it is now tortoise food.

I bought a bunch of scallions for something specific I wanted to make today. I only needed two, but they only sell them by the bunch. So I may as well just go toss them now because I probably won’t use the rest before they get wilted and gross. So you need an option F for other.

I got something in a yogurt container way in the back of the fridge that I can't eat till it's  aged properly and I can't remember what it is. It might have been there too long now so I will likely toss it.

There is a little something I cooked up for Randy D, but I would never eat it myself.

The *easy* option on this would be to say C, it belongs to someone else. There are other options however :P

  • D.  I'm not so sure that even the most extreme case of starvation would be enough for me to suffer through attempting to eat cottage cheese.

At the moment, there is nothing in my fridge that I would not eat.  I don't bother to cook just for myself, so there are no leftovers which are the usual suspects in throwing out food.

Olives.  I bought them for a casserole that I didn't make.  I don't like olives.

When you bought the olives, you were not planning to eat any of the casserole yourself?  And are they black olives or green olives?  And do you dislike both the black and green, or just one of the two?

Actually I do like the casserole.  It calls for finely chopped green olives.  I rarely can distinguish the taste of the olives in the casserole, nor can I see them.  The next time I'm out I will take the olives to my sister along with a few other things I need to get to her.  I don't like black olives either.
