What am I getting wrong with this math challenge?

Yay!  A math question!  Math is a category that doesn't get a lot of action here so I'm going to breathe some life into that category!

Anyway, I give up so I'm offering this one to someone who knows how to do piecewise functions.  I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out where I'm going wrong but I know I'm getting something wrong because most of my answers are "limit doesn't exist".

The challenge and my probably wrong answers are here:

This was the challenge:

Sorry, my maths capacity stalled at quadratic equations and trigonometry.

I even had a gorgeous young university maths student as a tutor.
He managed to help me learn how to produce the right answers, but I never understood why they were right.
Lack of practice since then means I've now forgotten the method.

Of the Muggers here, I believe Don Barzini could give you the best answer,
    possibly also Element 99.

The tutor was just as infatuated with you as he could be, he was supplying you with the correct answers, the two of you were so goo-goo eyed with each other that you didn’t know what he was doing and he was too shy to ask you out.

      That’ll be $150 Australian, please.

Why, Sigmund, I do believe you might be right! A$180 for you. ;)

It never occurred to me that my tutor might have fancied me.
He was three years older, and usually older boys preferred older girls.

But then, apart from shyness, he might also have been smart enough to realise he'd better not risk his job by making an advance my mother would not have liked. I was still only 16.

I don't think Don Barzini's going to be much help because he liked Thriftymaid's response and I don't see Element 99 coming to my rescue.   He probably knows how to do this and he could probably do this in a few seconds.  A little help here, people!

Oh Lord!  I opened this and looked at your post and had to go get Tylenol for my neck pain.  It's been quite a while since that happened.  Good luck.  I don't do math with letters.  I can usually figure out an answer if you just talk to me with words and numbers.

"Exactly" doesn't seem like enough to describe, in words, how much I agree with you.

    HAPPY DANCE!!!

Umm yeah, math must have been really fun in ancient Israel, Greece or Rome with them using only letters for numbers and also not having a number zero.

You continually bought mayo instead of Miracle Whip, and you flattened the tildes when you were supposedly “dusting” them. It’s all in the divorce decree.

Yes it is all the divorce de-thing. It‘s under the ”Randy’s completely insane so Jaimie should get all the money”  decree. What is a decree anyway? Lol

You’re in Canadialand; don’t confuse yourself with words that are too big for you.

They’re not big words... you’re just “old” person talking again.

This will take a brain a lot bigger than mine to figure out.  Perhaps she can help you...

  • Wow, your worksheet was a bit more difficult than the one Jaimie showed me that she had to do, LOL.  I forgot everything I know about piecewise functions I believe the very same day that I was tested on piecewise functions.

I remembered enough about them to give this a shot but I forgot enough about them to make it hard.
