    I encountered a copperhead along side a golf cart path. I picked it up with a golf club and tossed it in the wooded area so nobody would step on it. It was quite docile.

    I grew up around them seen many, killed a few less than many.  Believe that is a Copperhead you pictured, here is what was around my childhood neighborhood; Diamondback Rattlers

    The anti venom for a Copperhead is thru the roof, Rattlers are cheaper.  A guy in NJ got bit at a rest stop, $17,000 later before hospitalization costs he was OK. Read that in the NY Times online a year or two back.  At most rattler anti venom will be around 2K

    Nice to know. I'll try not to get bitten. I'm not sure if medicare covers it. We only have two species of rattlers here: Massasauga and a small pocket of timber rattlers near lake Erie.

    Timber Rattlers are small and on the endangered species list I believe.  Now you may get bitten if you hold your Pinky out.  They are small and their mouths are even smaller

    You got it backwards. Massasaugas are quite a bit smaller than timbers.

    I live in Australia, what do you think?
    Black (both plain and red-bellied), eastern brown, king brown and tiger snakes. The last mentioned used to haunt the neighbour's shed - he kept chicken feed there and mice would try to steal it. The snakes were there to feed on the mice.

    Dang. We have snakes here but you have to look for them. Most are quite harmless.
