Exactly what flavor is "white" cake?

I've never quite understood the idea of a color as a cake flavor.
Don't get me wrong - - white cake is fine with me.

Yeah, I thought of that, too. But I also see cake mixes that are called "vanilla" or "French vanilla," ha! and then there's the whole "yellow" cake thing, too! Ha!

A rose by any other name can still be vanilla.

Maybe peppermint flavor since peppermint is white and adds no color to it.

    That makes sense. :)

Yet, many of the white cakes I've eaten don't have a peppermint taste. :)

White cake is vanilla made with egg whites.
Yellow cake is vanilla made with the whole egg...the yolk gives it the yellow color.

I remember eating a 'white' cupcake with a cherry flavor. Quite surprizing.

There are extracts that are clear for flavoring.  But yes cherry flavored white cake would be a surprise.

Thanks, my2cents! I don't think I ever knew that. (Obviously, I guess, since I asked the question, ha.) I never paid that close enough attention to the details of a white and yellow cake, other than eating them. Or baking them from a mix, and, then, I don't remember the details, if the directions had said to use only the egg whites.

I’ve just read this entire string, and it reminds me of Grilled Cheese Girl from the now-defunct AnswerBag.  She was either anti-pie and pro-cake, or pro-pie and anti-cake, but whichever it was, she certainly was adamant about it, almost militant, lol.

Were you ever on that website, and if so, do you remember her?

I was an Answerbag, yeah. I don't distinctly remember Grilled Cheese Girl. But now that I think about it, maybe? But it would only be that the name maybe sounds sort of familiar. But I don't remember anyone talking strongly about pie and cake. :)
